reason one hundred and eighty nine - why i love miranda july

miranda july has been popping up on my radar lately -- not pooping, popping -- and she has sincerely made me laugh. she's been making me think about truly funny females; unlike almost every single one of my best lady friends - i didn't like the movie bridesmaids. i felt it could have been sooooo much more funny, creative and clever...

thanks to lovely emily who posted this, i have so enjoyed looking at what miranda july's been up to lately. here's one of her latest projects found in VICE mag:

to see the entire collection, click here. she's also coming out with another movie called "the future" soon!! swoon!

forget kristen wiig - miranda july is the funny one.
not to mention a genius artist to boot.

wow. what a beautiful quote:

"Be always kind to everyone and a refuge for those who are without shelter. Be daughters to those who are older than you. Be sisters to those who are of your own age. Be mothers to those who are younger than yourselves. Be nurses to the sick, treasurers for the poor, and supply heavenly food to the hungry."

superheadz/powershovel's necono digital camera

those of you that know me know i cannot stand cats. when i was seven years old, i woke up to my pet cat peeing ON MY FACE, my sweet seven year old cherub face, in my bed. yeah, you laugh now, but if you had a cat urinate on you while you were sleeping, you'd be pretty damn mad, i'm sure. ANYWAYZZZZ. so then you might wonder what this cat is doing on my blog. well, i'll tell you.
i literally shed a tear when i got this in the mail. the fact that its a flippin' CAMERA blows my mind [!!!]
it has magnets on its paws, so you can stick it anywhere!!

the awesome crew at superheadz tokyo sent me one for free if i would be one of their photography  monitors of their brand new, cat shaped 'necono' digital spy camera that just launched this week. and let me tell you -- ITS DOPE. you've heard of the digital harinezumi before, right? well, that is a super amazing camera & superheadz creators are saying: "If Digital Harinezumi is an avant-garde older brother, necono digital camera must be his sweet and gentle little sister."

curious how a plastic cat is a digital camera?? i was too. this'll help all ya'll:

and here are some of my shots with the camera:

what the?

if you're sold and want one for yourself, get one here. thanks to the boyz @superheadz for the awesome camera & fun opportunity!!

*powershovel/superheadz is an amazing photography company based in tokyo and they are the ones that are known for all the amazing, cutting edge "toy" cameras.

if you visit us, we take you to malibu.

WOW. so this is what living in a major city again is like! i get to have my dearly loved friends & family visit monthly!! i've kinda been shocked, living in sodak [if you didn't know, isn't really a major 'hub' for anyone] we had visitors, but not like, 6 in one month. this has been amazing and filled with so much good ocean air, laughter, good food and damn fine company.

i was especially blessed the month of may - my dearest cousins samimi were visiting; the lovely & ever talented kylie from berlin en route to AK; the handsome saldanas from my second love, portland; and of course my beautiful sister amanda. it isn't a stretch to say that if you visit us, even if for a day, we'll take you to the lovely malibu beaches. i mean, come on, aren't they exquisite??

color and creativity and detachment to material posessions.

people who know me know that i love bright bold, rich colors. like, LOVE them. and people who've known me for a reallly long time remember that i used to wear bright orange jcrew cargo pants my entire middle and high school years. people who might not have known me knew me as the girl with the bright colors and the orange pants. they were so popular in fact, that my brother wore them to his middle school prom. that still makes me laugh aloud today.

and i know this is really lame of me and maybe really funny, but here is my brother in the orange pants at his 8th grade prom. the lovely little lady in red is also my dear friend kylie, whom i've mentioned lots of on here before:

this bold colorblocking, neon tight wearing, bright lipstick wearing style i've had has never died down. i feel i am cheating myself if i cannot wear bright colors. i had this really important event two nights ago at a private gala in beverly hills and the dress code was "business casual". that is like the worst two words you can put together. and i had NO clue how i could rock my usual bright self and still fit in with the request- so i went all black. i felt kinda sad and cheated. so i wore reallly bright pink lipstick. ha. still slipped it in. i gotta do what i can, right?

then i came across this TED talk and really loved the short piece she said about being yourself, wearing bright colors. and how when you wear bright colors its hard to be unhappy. i feel like she is right. i'll just let you watch the video now:

i admire her for this! what are your thoughts? would you have been able to part with all those sick finds?? do you think you'd be able to live on just thrift clothes?? don't you think it'd take so much of your time poking through yucky, smelly clothes or not?

thoughts?
